I am reminded of the story in the garden where a mate was sought for Adam, and God brought all the animals to Adam to be named, but a mate was not found (intriguing how naming and finding a mate is connected) for him. Eventually it was only after the whole apple fiasco that the woman from his ribs was given a name.
Another fascinating story! I like how you grounded your folktale firmly in history. It felt natural, like it belonged there, if that makes sense... Stories of betrayal are always devastating, and this one especially so. My heart broke for the lamb. I completely failed at horse sales because I was so haunted by all the animals whose trust I earned and then betrayed :-(
