"Mentalist and Ratiocinative Investigator Extraordinaire" Ahhh, a fine new character that Marty is! Ratiocination always reminds me of Poe and the Purloined Letter.
Ha! Thank you, Alexander. And, yes, the Purloined Letter was the source of the “ratiocinative investigator”. I decided that since he was American he might have been aware of Poe’s detective character. I gather you’re an aficionado of detective fiction based on a stray reference to Agatha Christie in one of your photos and the supernatural investigators in your novel. Thank you again for the comment. 😊
I did read some but mostly Poe and Doyle and I did an essay on the Poe-etic effect in the Purloined Letter available on my Substack. Excellent choice for Marty. Love it!
Most interesting Daniel, with the unexpected introduction of an American paranormal investigator. Someone who seems to have an unusual gift, and just happens to be conveniently around, hmmm? And Hermann's father just won't stay put, driving poor Hermann crazy! Pushing all the buttons, Daniel!
Thank you again, Frank! This has turned out to be an unexpected treat. I’m having a blast with it, because it’s an opportunity to blend my passion for historical novels with a boyhood fascination with gothic horror. All of those creature features from the golden age of Hollywood (with a nod to Hammer Horror!)
I think I’ve mentioned it before, but your kind comments mean a lot to me. But I’m especially grateful for this one because it pierces the veil and gets to the heart of what I’ve been trying so hard to do with this story.
Jim, thank you again for following the story! I originally thought this was going to be a two-part short story, but then I started having so much fun with it, that’s blossomed into something else. I think I’m a little over halfway through it. The action is soon to transfer to America. I’m not sure how many words it’s going to end up being.
By the way, I’m really liking your posts about the process of the writing and your analysis of AI utilities. Very interesting stuff!
I don't know where you're going with this, but I'm here for the ride!
So good

Daniel, for everything you’re achieving with this story and all your generosity of spirit and style, I salute you.

Damn!!! How many words have you posted so far, have you been counting? I'm just wondering if you have an idea for how long it will be in the end?
