Daniel, you write of such terror in vivid detail. And with poor Hermann being trapped in a dream / nightmare with the monster and knowing he is dreaming, he can do nothing to keep the monster from crossing over and threatening his child. I can feel his despairation! This is a great continuation of the story.
This is such a great story, Daniel. Grimly gothic with such wonderfully evoked characters and locations. The horrors, when they come, are suitably monstrous but also perfectly judged so you believe they could exist in this superstitious mist shrouded land
Thank you soooo much, Daniel. Sometimes I fall into a sort of post-partem funk after I hit the send button, so it’s very uplifting to get feedback like this. And thank you so much for restacking it. ☺️
This is one of the best things on Substack right now.
My gosh. I’m soooo blushing, Jim!!!! 😊
Ha!
This was so intense; the emotions, the atmosphere, the dialogue. I couldn’t stop reading!
Thank you so much, Maya! I’m really enjoying your stories too! They’re very atmospheric.
Thank you! I’m so happy to hear it
I saved this for a quiet Sunday afternoon so I could savor it... worth the wait :-)
Man, this story just gets better and more intense with each installment.
Thanks, Josh. Your stuff is really good too. The writing is tight and the dialogue is very natural and just flows.
"farted a black mist that spattered the crib’s canopy in blood and rain." ...this bolted my senses.
Karl! What? I did not see that one coming! Excellent twist, Daniel.
